Religious fanatics out to disrupt elections
Speakers at a press conference on Monday said fundamentalist groups have no rights to threaten any progressive cultural organisation in the country, says a press release.
Styled 'Confront the fundamentalist activities in Rajshahi,' the press conference was organised by Bangladesh Pathonatok Parishad at the Liberation War Museum in the city.
The speakers alleged that the religious fanatics are intentionally making an issue out of nothing to disrupt the regular cultural activities and the next general election.
After the liberation war, theatre was the only medium that developed in every aspect. The fight for freedom and theatre has become synonymous to the people of Bangladesh, they added.
The forces, which opposed the liberation war, are targeting theatre practices and activists in the open.
The speakers also vowed to confront the continual threats on the traditional cultural practices.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Nasiruddin Yousuff, Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Chairman M Hamid, Udichi President Golam Muhammad Idu, President of the Parishad Mannan Hira and former chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Mamunur Rashid addressed the programme.
