Neat nomination by AL grassroots
The Awami League (AL) has primarily found almost all candidates for the 15 re-demarcated constituencies in Dhaka but is still looking for more competent candidates for a number of these parliamentary seats to ensure victory.
The party has already collected recommendations about possible candidates from the grassroots level committees from the 15 constituencies.
The grassroots level committees have held extended meetings in the respective constituencies and recommended candidates' names to the AL Parliamentary Board (ALPB).
Party insiders say ALPB headed by AL President Sheikh Hasina would take a final decision regarding nomination in the capital after formal formation of the grand electoral alliance and sharing seats with other parties out of the alliance.
In that that case all the recommended names would not be considered, they add.
Sources say the AL chief is planning to nominate a few popular leaders, academics and lawyers in Dhaka.
Meantime, AL Organising Secretary Mahmudur Rahman Manna has collected nomination forms for Dhaka-18 constituency.
Talking to The Daily Star, some AL leaders said they have primarily had some candidates including Saber Hossain Chowdhury for Dhaka-9, Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh for Dhaka-12, Harunur Rashid or Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin for Dhaka-7, Dipu Khan or Sayeed Khokon for Dhaka-6, Ilias Mollah and Kamal Majumder for Dhaka-15 and 16, Advocate Sahara Khatun and AKM Rahmatullah for Dhaka-10, 17 and 18 constituencies.
The sources say AL might share seats with Jatiya Party in Dhaka-5, 17 and with Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Dhaka-11.
JP Chairman HM Ershad might contest from Dhaka-17 constituency, while JP leader Abu Hossain Babla from Dhaka-5 and BDB Secretary General Maj (retd) MA Mannan from Dhaka-11.
