Moulvibazar women voters outnumber males by far
The recently published voters list shows numerical superiority of women voters in all the four constituencies under the district.
According to the new voter list, number of female voters is 29,781 higher than that of male voters as the list includes 5,21,162 female voters and 4,91,381 male voters.
Political leaders, however, attributed the situation to a large number of male expatiates failure to be listed as voters.
In Moulvibazar-1 (Baralekha and Jury upazilas), numbers of female and male voters are 1,06,992 and 96,178.
In Moulvibazar-2 (Kulaura upazila and four unions of Kamalganj upazila), there are 1,28,806 female and 1,21,007 male voters.
In Moulvibazar-3 (Moulvibazar Sadar and Rajnagar upazilas), 1,58,060 are female voters and 1,51,149 are male voters.
In Moulvibazar-4 (Srimongal and five unions of Kamalganj upazila), 1,27,304 are female voters and 1,23,047 male voters.
The number of voters in the district has increased by 1,04,801 compared with that of 2001 election that showed 9,07,742 voters in the district.
There has not been any major allegation after publication of the new list of voters, district election office sources said.
The number of female voters appeared higher than that of male voters as a large number of expatriates from Moulvibazar district could not be listed as voters, said Moulvibazar district Awami League former president Syed Mohsin Ali, Moulvibazar district BNP General Secretary Md Fayzul Karim Mayun and district NAP (Mujaffar) General Secretary Niharendu Home Chowdhury Sajal.
Sources, however, said there is not much possibility of women's getting nomination for the upcoming election in the four constituencies as only the name of Khaleda Robbani has come up for discussion as an aspirant for BNP nomination from Moulvibazar-3 constituency.
