New parking system on cards

Car importers have initiated a move to launch an auto-parking system, especially for the capital city of Dhaka, in an effort to boost car sales by easing traffic congestion.
“Many people will buy cars if the traffic situation and vigilance against car parts lifters can be improved,” car importer Sanaullah Selim told The Daily Star.
Selim said many city dwellers changed their minds on buying cars in view of heavy traffic snarl-up, poor traffic management and frequent theft of automobile accessories.
Autocon Limited, a local automobile importing company, held several seminars on automatic car parking at the auditorium of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) recently and displayed some models of the system.
Autocon Chairman Md Abdul Hamid Sharif said, “The automatic parking system could help accommodate many cars in a limited space, which Dhaka city needs very much.”
The automatic system could be set up close to roads, Sharif said.
Once such a system is set up, cars will be parked automatically into a car rack or car tower, he went on.
In addition, this parking will ensure safety of the cars as nobody will have access to the garage without an authorised entry card, the Autocon chief said.
He said they wanted to import a 20-foot by 20-foot parking system, a space-saving and easy one, from Germany's Wohr GmbH.
Wohr GmbH and Japan's Shimaywa are the key players in the auto-parking solutions market, Sharif said.
