Move to install genocide plaques at all killing fields of '71
War Crimes Facts Finding Committee (WCFFC) has taken an initiative to install genocide plaques at the killing fields of 1971 lying all over the country.
There are around 5,000 small and big killing fields across the country and the committee has already identified 920 fields, said a press release yesterday.
It said seventy percent of those killing fields have been wiped out in such a way that it could not be traced anymore.
Against the backdrop, the committee has decided to install plaques at the killing fields that are lying in negligence. It has also made a plan to bring the mapped fields under GIS system and a map of the fields will be published in December this year.
The committee will also publish a book containing the names of war criminals, a list that was published earlier on April 3 this year.
The WCFFC is also going to open an advice centre to operate round the clock from the month of December to solve health problems of the deprived freedom fighters. Besides, it takes steps for capacity building of the freedom fighters' families.
Persons willing to take part in the effort of WCFFC are requested to contact at its address WCFFC, 129 Darus Salam, Mirpur, Dhaka, 1216, phone: 8022609 and mobile: 01817007921 or email: [email protected]
