'Ensure political empowerment for women'
Participants at a workshop on 'Women's Political Empowerment' demanded equal rights in running political organisations and balanced sharing in nomination for national election according to the ratio of female voters in constituencies.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyer's Association (BNWLA) and Free Election Movement Association (FEMA) jointly organised the workshop at Barisal Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) auditorium yesterday.
About 45 women including political leaders, representatives of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), social workers and leaders of different professional, socio-cultural organisations participated in the open discussion of the programme jointly organised by Bangladesh National Women Lawyer's Association (BNWLA) and Free Election Movement Association (FEMA) at Barisal Local Govern-ment Engineering Department (LGED) auditorium.
Although the government was run by two female prime ministers for last 15 years, political empowerment of women could not be achieved satisfactorily even inside the two major political parties led by women chiefs, speakers said at the workshop.
