Memorial for Zia Hyder in Pabna

A memorial meeting in honour of the prominent dramatist and educationist Professor Zia Hyder was held last Saturday in Pabna. The Ekushey Book Fair Celebration Committee, Pabna organised the programme at Pabna Press Club auditorium. Educationists, journalists, cultural activists and people from all walks of life attended the event.
President of Ekushey Book Fair Celebration Committee, Pabna, Sultan Ahmed chaired the programme. Among other speakers were author Rashid Haidar, who is also the younger brother of the late Zia Hyder; former Principal of Pabna Government Bulbul College, Professor Mohammed Nurunnabi; dramatist Kumar Prithish Bal; educationist Abdul Mannan Talukder; Professor Shibojit Nag; President of Pabna Press Club, Rumi Khondoker and freedom fighter Robiul Islam. Journalist Kamal Ahmed Siddiqui conducted the programme.
Speakers echoed the view that Zia Hyder was a key figure in the theatre movement of our country.
Not just a dramatist, he was a remarkable writer and the teacher too. His works continue to encourage theatre activists and enthusiasts, they expressed.
Originally from Pabna, Hyder's demise was an irreparable loss to the theatre arena of Bangladesh, speakers felt.
