Jail Killing Day today
The Jail Killing Day commemorating the assassinations of four national leaders will be observed across the country today.
The four Liberation War heroes -- Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of Bangladesh government in exile in 1971, Tajuddin Ahmed, prime minister of the same government, M Mansur Ali, finance minister, and AHM Qamaruzzaman, minister for home affairs, relief and rehabilitation -- were gunned down inside the Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975.
The four leaders were assassinated 79 days after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members was killed on August 15, 1975.
Awami League (AL) has taken up daylong programmes to mark the day.
The programmes includes hoisting black flags, wearing black badges, and placing floral wreaths at the mazars of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders at 8:00am and 8:30am respectively.
AL will also hold a discussion at the Dhaka Engineers' Institute at 3:00pm with party's acting President Zillur Rahman in the chair.
