BNP faction boycotts 'reformist' leader's meeting in Pabna
Leaders and activists of a faction of BNP boycotted a meeting of its Chatmohar upazila unit held at the residence of its unit president and former lawmaker KM Anwarul Islam, elected from Pabna-3 constituency on Saturday.
Pabna district unit president of BNP Sirajul Islam Sardar was present as chief guest while it was attended, among others, by upazila BNP leaders Belalur Rahman, Abdul Aziz, Abdur Rahim Kalu, Md. Jakaria, Rabiul Karim.
The boycotting leaders said they boycotted the meeting because its convener Anwarul Islam was a reformist.
A large number of BNP leaders did not attend the meeting. 'We did not attend the meeting because former member of parliament (MP) Anwar was a reformist, said Md Abdul Mannan, mayor of Chatmohar municipality and president of the party's Chatmohar Pourasabha unit. Most of the chairmen of Union Parishads also boycotted the meeting, he said. Another prominent BNP leader Monjur Rahman, also president of Pabna Samity in Dhaka boycotted the meeting.
When contacted, former MP Anwar refuted the allegations brought against him. 'The allegation against me is not true because there is no reformist now,' he said.
