Traders to stop operation thru' Akhaura land port from today
Akhaura Land Port Exporters and Importers Association at a meeting yesterday decided that they will stop using the land port from today due to deplorable condition of the feeder road and lack of LC service facility at the port.
The 16 kilometre road to Akhaura land port is virtually unfit for use for long. Movement of heavy trucks is risky because of the rugged road and seven vulnerable bridges, they said.
There is no facility for LC service and banking, they said.
Exporters and importers also face problems in loading and unloading goods not only at Akhaura but also at the land port across the border, said a statement issued after the meeting. It was signed by the association;s president Md. Safiqul Islam and secretary Monir Hossain Babul.
On Wednesday, the association submitted a memorandum to Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner through Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Office to fulfill their 16-point demand.
Contacted, DC Md. Abdul Hay said he will send it to proper authorities for action.
Akhaura land port will lose Tk 60 lakh to Tk 70 lakh revenue a day if export-import remains suspended, official sources said.
