British envoy assures aid for CHT
British High Commissioner Stephen Evans yesterday visited Bandarban and assured his government's enhanced aid for development of tribal people in the CHT.
British government's cooperation will also continue for the development of Bangladesh's potential tourism sector, Evans said in meetings with local officials and leaders.
The High Commissioner earlier arrived in Bandarban and held talks with Zila Parishad Chairman Prof Thanjama Lusai, Deputy Commissioner Moudud AK Qaiyyum Chowdhury and local army officials separately.
Accompanied by some High Commission officials, the British envoy also visited tourist spots Nilachal and the Buddhist golden temple.
The deputy commissioner later said the British diplomat discussed possibility of assistance of his government for development of three hill tracts and also exchanged views on different aspects of ensuing election.
