Ustad Badrul Huda, a sitar guru in Mymensingh region, is no more. He breathed his last at his residence in the district town on October 27. He was 65.
His namaj-e-janaza was held at the premises of the local Muslim Institute. A large number of people including his disciples attended the namaj-e-janaza.
The death of Ustad Badrul Huda has created an irreparable vacuum in the classical music arena of Mymensingh region. Many eminent personalities including secretary of Bahurupi Nattya Sangstha, Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu; principal of Nazrul Shena School, GM Faruq; ex-MP Captain (Retd.) Mujibur Rahman Fakir and mayor of Mymensingh Municipality, advocate Mahmud Al Nur Tareq expressed their deep shock at the death of the talented artiste.
Born on April 2, 1943 at Gaghan Chowdhury by-lane in Mymensingh town, Huda didn't receive much formal education. When he had just entered into the high school level, his passion and talent for music surfaced.
His devotion for sitar took him to Ustad Arun Bhoumik under whom he took talim (lesson) for two years at a tender age. He showed a particular interest in sitar. Later, Huda studied under sitar maestro Ustad Zamini Kanta Pal for five years. Ustad Bipin Das, a sitar maestro of the then zamindar of Gouripur dynasty, was moved by Huda's skill on the sitar. Soon Huda became a close disciple of Bipin Das.
Huda also took talim in classical music under the guidance of Ustad Dhiresh Acharya and Ustad Abdul Haque. Late Huda was also an artiste of Nazrul and Tagore songs.
Huda performed as judge of the Nutun Kuri competition organised by Bangladesh Television several times.
He was also a successful music director of many plays and dance dramas including “Nakshi Kanthar Matth” staged in and outside the district.
The modest Huda never sought money or fame. Nevertheless the bachelor Huda was honoured with the 'Sheba Ratna' award by Sheba Niketan in 2007 at Sheba Utsab. Sheba Niketan is a charity organisation that honours eminent persons for their contributions in their respective fields.
