Speakers at a meeting yesterday called on all to work together to turn the campaign to end domestic violence into a social movement by carrying out the campaign across the country.
They also stressed the need to frame laws to check domestic violence against women.
The speakers made the call at the annual general meeting of 'We Can Alliance to End Domestic Violence' at Biam Auditorium in the city. Representatives of over 300 organisations from 48 districts attended the meeting.
Former adviser to the caretaker government Sultana Kamal, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation Shaheen Anam, leading woman entrepreneur Nasreen Awal Mintoo and Executive Director of Steps Towards Development Ranjan Karmaker were also present.
The alliance launched the campaign titled 'We can' in 2004 with a view to putting an end to domestic violence. Some 3,50,000 men and women across the country are now involved in the campaign as 'change maker'.
The alliance hopes to involve 10 lakh 'change makers' in the campaign by 2011 who will help end domestic violence against women.
