Two JMB men get 10 years
A Bogra court yesterday sentenced two leaders of banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 10 years' imprisonment for possessing explosives and bomb-making materials.
Special Tribunal Judge Khalilur Rahman handed down the verdict to Ashraful and Abu Taher.
They were also fined Tk 5,000 each. If they fail to pay, they will have to serve one more year in jail.
According to the prosecution, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the two militant leaders on January 21, 2006. Acting on their statement, the Rab members also seized a huge quantity of bomb-making materials kept under the ground at Bamunia village in Shahjahanpur upazila.
Advocate Jahangir Hossain appeared for the state while Abu Bakkar Siddique defended the accused.
