Madrasa students deny involvement

A group of madrasa students including some Dhaka University (DU) students, who got admission in the university after studying in madrasa, yesterday said the vice-chancellor (VC) has resorted to crafty falsehood by making the madrasa students responsible for vandalising his office on Saturday.
Over a hundred of students from different city madrasas along with some DU students allegedly vandalised the office of the VC demanding cancellation of the university authorities' decision not to allow admission, in some departments, of the students who did not study Bangla and English of 200 marks each in their higher secondary or equivalent courses.
At a press briefing, DU VC Prof SMA Faiz termed the incident an unimaginable one saying that such an incident never happened before in the history of the university.
He said the vandals should be arrested for their offence.
Prof Faiz further said the attackers threatened him saying that they would not let the university run normally, if they cannot get admission.
At a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium yesterday, the students under the banner of 'Madrasa Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Committee' alleged that Prof Faiz had blamed them for ransacking his office in order to implement his conspiracy of not allowing madrasa students to get admission in the university.
They said the VC himself vandalised his office mobilising his own men.
They also vowed to protect the interests of madrasa students at DU at the cost of their own blood.
The students will form a human chain at TSC intersection at 10.00am today to press home their demand.
When contacted, Prof Faiz told The Daily Star that he is not interested in making any comment on their allegations after what they did on Saturday.
