Govt tenure will end Dec 31, says Hassan Ariff
Law Adviser AF Hassan Ariff yesterday said tenure of the current caretaker government will end on December 31.
He said, "National and upazila polls will be held as per the dates announced by the Election Commission, and then we'll hand over power to an elected government and go back to work as usual."
The adviser was addressing a relief distribution programme at Sharonkhola upazila in Bagerhat.
He gave away possession of new houses to 120 Cyclone Sidr-hit families at Rajoer village of the upazila. The housing scheme was financed by Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Islami Bank Foundation.
Besides, 10 women of the village were given cheques of Tk 10,000 each.
Speaking at the gathering at a local auditorium, the law adviser said the country should try not to turn to others for food. It must use every inch of its land to produce rice, fish and poultry to meet the food demand.
