Students, teachers lay siege to police station in Nabinagar
Slogan chanting students and teachers of different schools at Nabinagar yesterday marched streets in Nabinagar upazila headquarters, formed a human chain, laid a siege to the police station and staged a demonstration in front of the UNO office protesting gang rape of a minor schoolgirl and demanding punishment of the culprits.
They also submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
At least 1500 students and 25 teachers from different schools took part in the demonstrations, eyewitnesses said.
The victim was a student of class six of Nabinagar Ichchamoye Girl High School. The incident took place Tuesday night.
As they laid a siege to the police station, the officer-in-charge assured them of arrest and punishment of the culprit.
At a rally during the demonstrations, speakers said they will launch a tougher movement if the culprit is not punished.
When contacted OC Md Nehaz Uddin said police already arrested the two alleged culprits.
Two culprits --- Kainchan Mia, 20, and Wobaidul Haque, 21,--abducted the 10 yerar-old girl when she went out to fetch water. Local people rescued her hearing her screams.
The victim's mother filed a case with Nabinagar police station.
Police said their investigation and medical examination proved that she was gang raped.
