Boatmen kill dolphin on Meghna River

Callous boatmen on the Meghna River yesterday killed a dolphin near Panishyar village under Sarail upazila of the district.
As a few boatmen of Panishyar village were carrying brick on a big boat on the Meghna River near Panishyar village, 15 kilometres off the district town, a 40 kg dolphin jumped onto the boat, locals said.
The boatmen beat the dolphin to death and later sent it to Bikal Bazar of Sarail for sale.
Earlier on several occasions, fishermen and boatmen caught and killed dolphins, which is still seen in Meghna and Titas rivers.
