SBMC reopens October 12

Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) will reopen on October 12 after 50 days' closure following an incident of lynching of a plumber by students on the campus.
SBMC academic council approved the decision at a meeting held here on Monday, said principal Dr Zahid Hossain. The meeting also decided to deploy police force on the campus on October 10. Three male dormitories and two female dormitories will be opened for resident students on October 11.
SBMC was declared closed sine die on August 25 after killing of plumber Murad Hossain on the campus on August 24.
The college authorities formed an independent investigation committee in this connection but its report is yet to be known.
Victim's father Kamal Mistri lodged a murder case accusing five students Badrul, Mehdi, Nobel, Ashik and Shuva. None was arrested till filing of this report yesterday afternoon.
When contacted, Barisal Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Hayatul Islam said the college authorities gave an assurance of all-out assistance to them to bring the culprits to book.
