3 Bangladeshis held
Indian police have arrested four people, including three Bangladeshi nationals, in connection with serial bomb blasts in Agartala on October 1.
The arrestees were identified as Nurul Amin, Md Joynal, Abdul Malek and Roshan Jamal, said Tripura Police Spokesperson and DIG Nepal Chandra Das on Friday.
Joynal claimed to be from Chittagong while Malek and Jamal said they are from Rangpur and Sylhet districts respectively, he said, adding that the three were arrested from Lankamura locality of Agartala, close to the border with Bangladesh.
Only Nurul Amin is an Indian national, police said.
All the four were produced before a court in Agarala on the same day and the court granted the prayer for seven days' police custody.
The trio claimed they were returning from Ajmer, but police said they are trying to verify the statements.
At least 52 people were injured in five blasts that took place in a space of five minutes at different localities of Agartala on Wednesday night in the first terror attack in the capital of Tripura state.
Tripura police are trying to find a link between the Agartala blasts and recent serial explosions in other cities of India.
Tripura Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya said there appear to be some similarities between the blasts in Agartala and other parts of India.
Police officials said the state has become a transit route for Huji militants. Six of whom were arrested since March this year, including Mamun Mian, Sirajul Islam, Syed Hussain and Kabir Hossain.
Tripura shares 839 kilometres of porous border with Bangladesh on all three sides.
