Eid Bonanza: A feast of TV shows
With an end to Ramadan and the onset of Eid, it's time to unwind in front of the small screen. All the Bangla channels are offering a surfeit of entertainment ranging from special TV plays, telefilms, musical shows to variety programmes. Whatever the medium, there's likely to be something for everyone. A rundown of the Eid-special programmes on different channels:
ATN Bangla
“Dhakar Hojja”
On the night before Eid, special TV play Dhakar Hojja will be aired at 8:50 pm. The play is a modern-day depiction of the popular Mollah Nasiruddin Hojja tales. Moin Khan Rupi has directed the play.
In the play, a TV reporter discovers the Hojja family and makes a sensational news of it. The beautiful, young daughter of Hojja falls for the reporter. This creates a conflict between the father and daughter, neither intends to back off.
Ahsan Habib Nasim, Tanima Ahmed, Chitralekha Guha and Zahiruddin Piar play the lead roles in Dhakar Hojja.
“Symphony”
Musical programme Symphony will be aired on 12:10 pm on Eid day. The instrumental show directed by Nazmus Sahadat Nazim will feature several eminent bands of the country including LRB, Miles, Prometheus, Renaissance and others.
“Tothabrito Jothakaar”
Written and directed by Hanif Sanket, TV play Tothabrito Jothakaar will be aired on Eid day at 8:50 pm. The cast includes Humayun Faridee, Zahid Hassan, Mir Sabbir, Anisur Rahman Milon, Rosy Siddiqui, Challenger and others. The story centres on three young men who have come to the city from a village. They encounter several humorous situations. A stranger in the city helps them during their predicaments. Kusum Sikder, Richi Solaiman and Monalisa have made special appearances in the play.
“House Husband'
TV play House Husband will be aired on 8:50 pm on the second day of Eid. Written by Masum Reza and Directed by Syed Awlad, the play has Tauquir Ahmed, Tarin, Abul Hayat, Sharmilee Ahmed and others in the central roles.
Tarin plays the role of a celebrated actress; always busy shooting at different locations. Her husband is a writer, who prefers staying at home. He manages the home. On a talk show on television, he shares this aspect of his family life, creating a hullabaloo. His parents cannot seem to accept their son as a "house husband."
“Anandakhoney Bondhu Alaponey”
On the third day of Eid at 12:10 pm, variety show Anandakhoney Bondhu Alaponey will be aired. Directed by Rumana Afroz, the show is jointly hosted by Nova, Nirob and RJ Nirob. The show features adda, special recipes by actress Tania Ahmed, performances by Bappa Majumdar, Chandni, Fahmida Nabi and Sohel-Riya duo. Aupi Karim, Balam, Julie, Tanveen Sweety and Mosharraf Karim will reminiscence on their Eid memories.

“Purabi Eid Ananda"
Variety show Purabi Eid Ananda will be aired on the first day of Eid at 10:40 am. The programme is hosted and directed by Keka Ferdausi.
The programme includes several games, music and songs. Singers Khalid, Biplob, Milon Mahmud, Cynthia, Sonia and Kona will appear as guests on the programme.
"Bhagfall"
On the first day of Eid, special telefilm Bhagfall will be aired at 12:15 pm. Written by Anisul Haque, the telefilm is directed by Md. Mostafa Kamal. Moushumi, Hasan Masud and Sohel Khan play the lead roles in the telefilm.
"Mohan Chainik Chikitshak Wang Pi"
Comedy play Mohan Chainik Chikitshak Wang Pi will be aired on the first day of Eid at 7:50 pm. Written and directed by Humayun Ahmed, the play features several humorous incidents involving the residents of a village. Two strangers, who are siblings, arrive in the village and one of them -- the elder brother -- claims to be the famous Chinese doctor Wang Pi, while the younger is his assistant.
The cast includes Dr. Ejazul Islam, Faruq Ahmed, Jayanta Chattapadhyay, Juthi and Maznun Mizan.
"Bhalobashar Holud Brishti”
TV play Bhalobashar Holud Brishti will be aired on the second day of Eid at 9:35 pm. Written by Zobera Rahman Linu, the play is directed by Nazrul Islam.
The story revolves around a tomboyish girl Rodela. She prefers the company of boys and considers herself to be one of them. The story rolls ahead with the joys and sorrows of Rodela.
Aupi Karim and Intekhab Dinar play the lead roles in Bhalobashar Holud Brishti.
"Ekti Non-fiction, Baki Koyekti Fiction"
TV play Ekti Non-fiction, Baki Koyekti Fiction will be aired on the third day of Eid at 9:35 pm. Amitav Reza has directed the play featuring Mim, Apurbo and Jenny.

“Kopal"
Bangla feature film Kopal will be aired at 10 am on the Eid day. Popular actors of mainstream Bangla films, Shabnur and Sakib Khan play the central roles. Hasibul Islam Mizan has directed the film.
The film features a conventional mainstream plot, which depicts the tragedy of a zaminder's son. Mahfuz Ahmed, Afzal Sharif and child artiste Dighee have performed the supporting characters in the movie.
"Konthe Nilem Gaan"
Musical programme Konthe Nilem Gaan will be aired at 5:20 pm on the Eid day. The programme features music videos of popular singers including Tausif, Anila, Mila and Topu. The singers will also discuss their first hit songs. Konthe Nilem Gaan is directed by Mamunur Rshid Khan.
"Mahua"
Like the previous Eids, ntv will air traditional palagaan performed by renowned palakar Abdul Kuddus Bayati. Kuddus Bayati and his troupe will present Mahua, one of the most popular pala from the Mymensingh Geetika.
However, Kuddus Bayati's pala Mahua is not an authentic presentation of the story depicted in Mymensingh Geetika, as the seasoned artiste improvise on the theme. The improvisation by the palakars is the essence of traditional pala performed in the rural areas.
Three episodes of Mahua will be aired at 9:30 pm on the first, second and third day of Eid.
"Noishobhoj"
Written and directed by Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Raj, TV play Noishobhoj features the mischief of a fictitious music composer who invites upcoming singers for dinner. Noishobhoj is based on the French movie The Dinner Time.
Noishobhoj will be aired at 11:15 pm on the second day of Eid.
"Prithok"
Written by Seilm Al Deen, telefilm Prithok features the inner and external conflicts in the life of a middle-aged man whose ancestors were zamindars but currently he is not financially solvent.
Directed by Golam Sohrab, the telefilm features Aly Zaker, Wahida Mallick Jolly, Joyraj and Dr. Enamul Haq in central roles.
Prithok will be aired at 2:30 pm on the third day of Eid.
Ekushey Television
“Phone O Live Studio
Concert"
Special episodes of Ekushey Television's popular weekend musical programme Phone O Live Studio Concert will be aired each day at 1:30 am through a five-day special programme.
Upcoming artiste Sayan will perform on the first day. The other participating bands and artistes are Souls, Miles, Renaissance and Maqsood on respective days.
Hosted by Alif Alauddin, the programme is produced by Tinku Azizur Rahman.
"Golden Moments"
Another series programme on this Eid is a musical programme Golden Moments. The programme will be aired each day at 12:30 pm from the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The programme will highlight four renowned singers Bashir Ahmed, Abdul Jabbar, Shammi Aktar and Abida Sultana on respective days.

"Chhandey Anandey"
Eid special dance programme Chhandey Anandey will be aired on Ekushey Television on the fifth day of Eid at 8:30 pm. Sudhir Sarkar is the producer of the programme.
The programme will highlight four duet and solo dance performances by Nisa-Shohag, Tazia-Mohon, Tina and Farah Ruma.
"Chiro Chena Suchitra Sen"
An exclusive documentary programme on legendary actress Suchitra Sen titled Chiro Chena Suchitra Sen will be aired on the fourth day at 8:30 pm. Pranab Saha has produced and directed the programme.
The 38 minute programme will highlight some rare footages of Suchitra between the years 1947 and 2007.
Channel 1
“Tin Matra"
TV play Tin Matra will be aired on the first day of Eid at 10:30 pm. Aranya Anwar has written and directed the play.
The story is set in a rural area and revolves around a girl named Koli. Three young men are vying for her attention. Who will win? Tisha plays the role of Koli. Ujjal Mahmud, Tariq Swapon and Sajib play other central roles.
"Hiyar Majhey"
Featuring celebrity couples, variety show Hiyar Majhey will be aired on the second day of Eid at 9:15 pm. Sohel Rana Bidyut has produced the programme.
Bappa Majumdar-Chandni and Riaz-Tina will share their tender and funny moments.
"Face of War-Warfaze"
Warfaze is one of the pioneering rock bands in the country. On the occasion of Eid as well as the 25th anniversary of Warfaze, a special programme will be aired on Channel 1. The programme, Face of War-Warfaze, will be aired two days in a row, on the second and third day of Eid at 11:45 pm.
The show will highlight the history and music of Warfaze. Abul Hossain Khokon has produced the programme.
"Club 70s”
Special musical programme Club 70s will be aired on the third day of Eid at 9:30 am. The programme will highlight Bangladeshi band music of the 1970s.
"City Bus"
Special TV play City Bus will be aired on the third day of Eid at 8pm. Noman Robin has written and directed the play.
The story of the play revolves around the humorous incidents that take place on the "City Bus," routed from Mohammadpur to Motijheel.
The cast of the play includes Hasan, Sohel Khan, Shuvo and Mukti.
“Bigyapon o Manusher Golpo”
Written by Ahmed Mustafa Kamal and directed by Shoraf Ahmed, TV play Bigyapon O Manusher Golpo will be aired on the fourth day of Eid at 8pm.
The play traces the life of Naser, whose dream was to marry a beautiful woman. His professional life takes off and eventually he marries Mitul, who is pretty. Mitul becomes a popular model and this brings about an odd change in Naser. He becomes fascinated with his wife's onscreen image rather than the real her.
Hasan Masud And Dipa Khandoker play the lead roles.
Banglavision
“Pragoitihashik"
An adaptation of Manik Bandyopadhyay's short story, telefilm Pragoitihashik will be aired on Eid day at 3:05 pm.
Set in a rural area, the protagonist of the play is Bhikhu -- a notorious bandit. During a botched robbery, he is injured and takes shelter in Pehlad's home. As he starts to recover the animal instincts in him start to take over. In the absence of his friend, Bhikhu makes advances towards Pehlad's wife. However, Pehlad makes it home just in time to catch Bhikhu red handed and kicks him out of his home. A vengeful Bhikhu hatches a plan to destry Pehlad and the story moves forward.
Featuring Humayun Faridee, Azad Abul Kalam and Tamalika Karmakar, the telefilm addresses the primeval human instincts of lust, rage and desire to possess. Pragoitihashik has been adapted and directed by Amirul Haque Chowdhury.
"Rashik Raaj"
First episode of the stand-up comedy contest Rashik Raaj will be aired on Eid day at 6:20 pm. Ten aspiring stand-up comedians will compete in the first round and eight of them will make it to the second round. Five top contestants will vie for the title of "Rashik Raaj" in the finale. The panel of judges include noted actor Tarique Anam Khan, TV show host Abdun Noor Tushar and singer-actress Shampa Reza. Khairul Babui has done the research for the programme produced by Nahid Ahmed Biplob. Saju Khadem and Gupu Tribedi have jointly hosted the show.
"Abeg"
Written by Faria Hossain and directed by Chayanika Chowdhury, TV play Abeg features Mahfuz Ahmed, Tarin, Richi Solaiman and Apurbo in the central roles.
Rupa and Tuhin are neighbours and good friends. Tuhin is an actor who has not done anything major yet. One day he tells Rupa that he is in love with her. Rupa is initially surprised but acknowledges Tuhin's feelings and the bond between them grows stronger. Things however turn sour when Rupa is pressed to get married by her parents. Tuhin is not yet ready to get married.
Abeg will be aired on the third day of Eid at 8:20 pm.
"Onekdin Por"
Written by Shibu Kumar Sheel and directed by Mezbaur Rahman Suman, TV play Onekdin Por will be aired on the fourth day of Eid at 8:20 pm.
On a busy, dark street Priscilla is stuck in a traffic jam. A stranger opens the door of the yellow cab and mugs her, snatching her purse. Priscilla does not make a sound as a knife in his hand is flashing. In the morbid streetlight, she makes out the stranger's face. She knows the thug.
Aupi Karim and Anisur Rahman Milon play the central roles in Onekdin Por.
