A schoolboy was run over by a jeep that was carrying the daughter-in-law of President Iajuddin Ahmed on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Khudirampur in Tangail Sadar yesterday.
Police seized the jeep but its driver was freed after giving an undertaking.
The jeep was carrying Kaniz Fatema, wife of Imtiazuddin Ahmed, son of Iajuddin, who was coming to Dhaka along with one of her personal staff from Thakurgaon.
The victim was identified as Raihan, 8, son of rickshawpuller Mintu Miah of Khudirampur village and a class one student of Dheli Karatia Primary School.
On information, a team of Tangail Sadar police took Kaniz and her staff to Tangail Circuit House and later sent them to Dhaka by a hired microbus.
Tangail Deputy Commissioner Makchhudur Rahman Patwari was present at the Circuit House.
Police, however, took the jeep with its driver Ainal Haque to Tangail Sadar Police Station, but he was later released after giving an undertaking that he will show up if he is summoned.
SI Mosharraf Hossain, second officer of Tangail Sadar Police Station, told The Daily Star that no case has been filed to this end.
