More Chinese milk powder seized in Ctg

A mobile court in its continued drive across Chittagong city yesterday seized powder milk of Yashali 1, Yashali 2 and Sweet Baby brands from two shops.
The drive, to find powdered milk manufactured in China, was carried out at different shops of Singapore-Bangkok market in Agrabad, Hazipara and GEC Intersection area.
The drive was launched after worldwide reports that some baby milk formula from China were tainted and had caused the death of several children. Over 62,000 children in China are reported to have fallen sick after consuming the milk.
During the drive the mobile court seized six tins of Yashali 1 and Yashali 2 powdered milk from Arif Departmental Store at the Singapore-Bangkok market.
The court fined the shop owner Md Zakaria Tk 7000 for selling the Yashali brand without the approval of the Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution (BSTI).
The mobile court also recovered two tins of powdered milk of Sweet Baby brand from Shams Store at Hazipara and warned the shop owner against storing or selling milk powder manufactured in China.
Magistrate Sanjida Sharmin, who conducted the drive, said that they were warning the shop owners against selling of milk powder of these two brands.
BSTI Inspector Billal Hossain, who also was part of the team, said that All Way Trading Company and Mou Enterprise the two concerned distributors, have now begun withdrawing products of the Sancare and Yashali Company brands from the market.
