Ctg JMB boss gets 10yrs
A court here yesterday sentenced outlawed JMB Chittagong Divisional Commander Javed Iqbal alias Mohammad to 10 years imprisonment in a case filed in connection with serial bomb blast across the country on August 17, 2005.
Judge Shafiqul Karim of Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal awarded the imprisonment to the JMB leader for his involvement in bomb blast at Badamtali intersection in the port city on the day.
The court also fined him Tk 5,000, in default he is suffer another year in jail, court sources said.
Another accused JMB cadre Arshadul Alam was acquitted of the charge.
The court exempted three top JMB leaders--Abdur Rahman, Siddiqur Rahman alias Bangla Bhai and Ataur Rahman Sunny--from the case since they were executed last year.
The case was filed with Double Mooring Police Station following the blast while the charge sheet submitted on January 14, 2007.
Hearing of 14 witnesses were held during the trial. Both Javed and Arshdul were in the dock during the judgment.
Javed has so far been awarded in different terms in nine cases. He is also an accused in eight other cases, which are now under trial at different courts in Chittagong.
