Borhanuddin upazila BNP President Anwar Bhuiyan was sent to jail when he appeared before the district judge's court yesterday in connection with mugging and extortion case.
The court rejected his bail petition as he was accused under the emergency rules.
Safu, a worker of Borhanuddin launch ghat, filed the case in April last year accusing Bhuiyan and his cadres of mugging and extortion in the launch ghat when BNP was in power.
Bhuiyan long refrained from appearing in the court. Recently he moved to the High Court with a bail petition that directed him to appear before the trial court.
