Enforce law to check violence against women

Speakers at a workshop held here yesterday stressed on proper execution of law for prevention of violence against women.
Women's Rights unit of Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service (RDRS) organised the workshop. Its co-ordinator Monjusree Saha presided while it was attended by Rangpur superintendent of police Mahfuzul Islam as chief guest and RDRS director Dr Sayed Shamsuzzaman as special guest.
Speakers emphasised on amendment of existing laws for protection of women from violence. They said flaws in law also help offenders to skip punishment.
Held at RDRS auditorium, the workshop was attended by lawyers, NGO activists, teachers, journalists and imams (religious leaders) of eight northern districts.
Speakers said mere enactment of law is not sufficient to curb violence against women. Both men and women should be made aware about the issue so that they can raise voice unitedly against any sort of violence against women, they said.
