Detective Branch (DB) of police has detained four people in connection with the Tk 46 lakh-robbery committed on ACI Group officials at Gulshan on September 14 and seized Tk 1.17 lakh from them.
The arrestees are Hazrat Ali, a microbus driver of ACI Group, Piar Ali, Khokan Mia and Mohammad Ilias alias Sekul.
A microbus and two motorbikes used for committing the robbery were also seized.
Deputy Commissioner of DB (North) Moinul Hasan said at least 10 to 12 criminals were involved in the robbery, adding that all of them have been identified.
He said microbus driver Hazrat Ali was the mastermind behind the robbery.
The DB official said they first detained Piar Ali. On his confession they arrested Khokan Miah at Tejgaon and seized Tk 30,000 from him.
Acting on Khokan's information, they arrested Hazrat Ali at Tejgaon and Sekul at Mohammadpur in the capital.
They also seized Tk 87,700 from Sekul.
Arrested Khokan, a tea vendor, said he was given the responsibility to watch when the ACI officials start for the bank with the money to deposit it. He got Tk 30,000 for the task, Khokan added.
DB personnel said the hunt is on for the other criminals involved in the robbery. If they are arrested, the rest of the money could be recovered, added the DB officials.
The criminals robbed the ACI Group officials of Tk 52 lakh while they were on their way to the Gulshan Branch of Standard Chartered Bank to deposit the money.
When ACI Group Assistant Manager Biplab Kumar Chakraborti tried to resist them, they fired shots at Biplab, who sustained injuries to his abdomen and hand.
The criminals escaped the scene spreading over Tk 6 lakh on the road to stop the locals from chasing them.
