Poetry recitation and discussion on Abul Mansur Ahmad’s birth anniversary
Abul Mansur Ahmad
Marking the 110th birth anniversary of Abul Mansur Ahmad, 'Bikhhan' -- a pathchakra (a reading circle) of Mymensingh Sahitya Sangsad (MSS) -- held a discussion and a poetry recitation at its office in the district town recently.
Abul Mansur Ahmad was born at the village Dhanikhola under Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh district on September 3 in 1898. He passed away on March 18, 1979 in Dhaka.
The discussion was held with poet Shahinul Islam Shaheen in the chair. Among others, poet Farid Ahmed Dulal and poet Saidul Islam Khokon took part in the discussion. Bangla Academy Award recipient poet Mosharraf Karim, also the convenor of MSS, was the chief discussant.
The programme also featured poetry recitation. Poets Ferdous Ara Dalia, Nasreen Sharmin, Rashid Ahmed, Shahinul Islam Shaheen, Tareq Ahsan, Tanveer Russel and Nihar Likhon presented recitations on the occasion.
The speakers expressed the view that Abul Mansur Ahmad was a prominent litterateur, journalist and a veteran politician. His works have enriched our literature in manifolds, they said.
Quoting some of his literary works like Food Conference, Aaina and Amar Dekha Rajnitir Panchash Bachhar, the speakers said that such works addressed social injustice and disparities. Abul Mansur Ahmad highlighted the dialect of Mymensingh region in his writings.
Studying the works of Abul Mansur Ahmad is a must for the writers of this generation, they also suggested.
Poet Mosharraf Karim informed that since the formation of MSS in 1980, the organisation has been conferring Abul Mansur Ahmad Literary Award. A total of 37 litterateurs and poets of the country including Ahsan Habib, Al Mahmud, Shamsur Rahman, Abu Zafar Obaidullah, Hassan Azizul Haque, Syed Shamsul Haque, Omar Ali and Dr. Anisuzzaman have so far received the Abul Mansur Ahmad Literary Award.
