Dhaka-Ctg train service disrupted for four hours

Train service on Dhaka-Chittagong route was disrupted for about four hours yesterday as textile workers put up a barricade on rail track at Amirganj station here demanding uninterrupted power supply in their industrial units.
Hundreds of workers took to the street at about 6:00am and blockaded the rail track protesting frequent power outages that disrupted production in their industries.
The agitating workers, however, withdrew the blockade at about 10:00am after Amirganj Union Parishad Chairman Mozammel Haq assured them of taking necessary steps to resolve the nagging problem in consultation with the authorities concerned.
Four trains got stranded at Amirganj and Thanabari due to the barricade. The train communications became normal on the route after 10:15am.
Power supply situation has worsened in the district, putting several thousand industries in trouble. The area faces power outages for 7-8 hours a day, the workers alleged.
Earlier, on several occasions, the workers laid siege to the local power office and put up barricades on Dhaka-Sylhet highway demanding uninterrupted power supply for smooth production in their Industries.
