8 directors of Gaibandha chamber resign
Eight of the 19 elected directors of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce yesterday resigned from the position alleging massive irregularities, misuse of power and whimsical acts of the existing chamber president.
The eight directors -- Abul Khair Morselin Parvez, Azharul Islam, Mahfuzer Rahman, Abdul Halim, Sabuj Mia, Dilip Kumar Shaha, Emarul Islam Sabin, Shahadat Hossain Khandker also held a press conference at Gaibandha Press Club yesterday.
In a written statement at the conference, Azharul Islam said existing president of Gaibandha Chamber Shajada Anwarul Kadir did a lot of irregularities and corrupt practices to clinch presidentship in the last election.
The present president formed election commission ignoring memorandum of articles of the chamber and enrolled 130 new members after expiry of the scheduled date as announced during election, speakers said.
Without any approval of the board of directors, the president conducted two seminars on behalf of Asia Energy over Fulbari open pit coal mining, which demolished the image of the Chamber of Commerce, they said.
The chamber president termed the resignation two months before election as a 'mysterious incident'.
