Resuming the day on 33 for none, the visitors scored 310-8 in 94 overs in their first innings in reply of the hosts' 252.
Skipper Nayeem Islam led from the front with an unbeaten 73 while Imrul Kayes hit 67 and Arafat Sunny struck 63.
Nayeem was at the crease with Ziaur Rahman (13) when stumps were pulled for the day.
Mendis captured three wickets for 61 runs and Masmulla bagged two scalps.
