A six-day group art and craft exhibition ended on September 16 at Gallery Zainul 1, Faculty of Fine Arts. Three young artists-- Mahjabin Rahim Moitry, M. Asaduzzaman Sohel and Nargis Akhtar-- of the faculty of the Department of Crafts participated in the exhibition.
The young talented artists displayed craft works in different mediums such as tapestry, batik, metal and woodwork. Moreover, art works in mixed medium were also on display.
All the three artists presented fabulous tapestry works, the woven colourful textile fabrics with figures or designs. Usually tapestry works are not exhibited because the medium is expensive and involves much hard work.
Each of the artists proved their mettle with their superb design, texture and colour composition. All of the artists have incorporated 'beauty' as a theme.
The figure of a woman and little animals such as rabbit and owl against a backdrop of nature, was depicted colourfully in tapestry by Mahjabin Rahim Moitry. She basically emphasised colour composition in her works.
Besides, realistic works, Moitry created an abstract work titled Emotion in tapestry. In the work human emotion had been presented through warm coloured loom.
Moreover, she displayed four mixed media works. In mixed medium, Moitry created some imaginary characters and named them as tepa. Again nature's harmony was the theme.
Talented artist M Asaduzzaman Sohel proved his mastery of tapestry at the exhibition. All of his works can be labeled as abstract works and have titled such as Transparency and Disparity.
The USP of his tapestry was the creation of diverse layers, unique design and vibrant colours. His well-finished tapestries could attract other artists to the medium.
Sohel also presented craft works in other mediums such as woodwork, metal and batik. In these mediums Sohel's approach was figurative and presented little birds and animals.
Nargis Akhtar presented some unique woodworks. She displayed three huge woodworks, titled Kushum Shaj, Kushum Nadi and Kushum Kanya. Serene woman figures depicted in the medium by the talented artist had the viewer spellbound. Nargis also displayed masks in metal and figurative tapestry works at the exhibition.
