Food shop, oil mill fined in Chittagong
A mobile court during separate drives in Chittagong yesterday fined a food shop and an oil mill Tk 70,000 for preserving food items in unhygienic condition.
The court fined KDS Food Products Tk 50,000 for preserving its brand 'Pure Baghbari Ghee' in the very unhygienic condition in Asadganj area.
It also destroyed 400 kilograms of ghee preserved on the dirty floor of the factory for sale.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) men arrested the shop owner Md Ibrahim Hossain in this connection.
Executive Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain led the drive with the help of Rab and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI).
The court in another drive at Patharghata fined a mustard oil manufacturing factory Rana Oil Mill Tk 20,000 for preserving 'Eagle Brand Pure Mustard Oil' in unhealthy condition.
Sources said the court found dead cockroaches and mosquitoes floating on the oil in a drum, which was destroyed later.
