Work unitedly for restoration of democracy
Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday called upon her party leaders to work unitedly for the restoration of democracy in the country and to make the "2020 vision" successful.
The 2020 vision is AL's mega plan to make Bangladesh a middle income country.
"Unity is strength. Forgetting all differences of opinion, you [party workers] will have to remain united to restore democracy in Bangladesh," said Hasina, now in the US for treatment. Hasina was speaking to the leaders of AL US chapter.
A number of groups of AL leaders also met her at Hotel Crown Plaza in New York, according to reports of US-based news agencies News World and American News Agency.
There could be differences of opinion and leadership contest in the party but those should not be taken personally, she said urging all to consider the party's principles and welfare first.
As around 100 party leaders gathered in the hotel corridor and created a chaotic situation in their bid to meet Hasina first, security officials at the hotel forced them out.
Failing to meet Hasina, they stood in a queue in front of the hotel. Hasina while leaving for Washington exchanged greetings with those party leaders from her car.
Hasina reached her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy's Virginia home and she is to go to John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on September 17 to follow up her medical treatment.
Hasina might return home after Eid-ul-Fitr.
