Arrest of 2 BNP men demanded in Rajshahi
Residents and traders at Gourhanga in Rajshahi city at a press conference held at a local restaurant yesterday demanded arrest of two BNP men who are involved in killing, toll collection, smuggling and land grabbing for a long time.
BNP activist Sarwar Zahan Polash and Dipu Sarker, former Jubo Dal president of Ward No 13, took an attempt to kill a contractor named Dubloo while snatching money from him in the same area during Four-party Alliance rule, they alleged.
The two are the main accused in Azhar murder case, they said. Azhar was killed on July 28, 1987. Several criminal cases were filed against them with Boalia Police Station, they said.
Sharif Khan, a local businessman who read out a written statement at the conference said the two had demanded Tk 1 lakh from him and another businessman Helal Khan.
Police arrested them on September 08. But they were released from jail.
Among others, former ward commissioner Osman Khan, businessmen Asraf Khan, AHM Kamruzzman Mukul, Belel Hossain, Delwar Hossain and Ali Hossain were present at the press conference.
When contacted, Polash refuted the allegations saying his rivals have circulated false information to journalists.
