Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury

Former president and chairman of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury yesterday suggested a meeting between chiefs of Awami Leaguer and BNP.
A meeting between Sheikh Hasina and Khakeda Zia keeping national interests in mind will resolve many problems in country's politics. The government can now mediate such a dialogue on vital national interests, he said.
He was addressing a discussion meeting held on Tangail Shaheed Minar premises in the town.
Shamsul Haque Foundation organised the meeting marking the 43rd death anniversary of founder general secretary of Awami League (AL) Shamsul Haque.
With the Foundation president Dr Saiful Islam Swapan in the chair, the meeting was addressed by, among others, prominent economists Dr Ahsan Habib Monsur, Tangail district AL general secretary Fazlur Rahman Faruque, district BNP vice-president advocate Mohammad Ali, local Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abu Ahmed Enayet Karim and district JP (Ershad) vice-president Khandakar Nazim Uddin.
Prof B Chowdhury said the country is passing trough a crucial period now. Only political leaders can save the situation and restore democracy through careful steps.
People want democracy and election but they also want good and honest people in parliament. They want to get rid of money and muscle power in politics and election. Political leaders should realise this, the former president said.
Badruddoza Chowdhury said people do not want a return to pre-1/11 situation when political parties fought for power, not for democracy or country's development.
Political leaders should be able to read people's mind in taking decisions, he said.
Much of the problems in country's politics will be removed if chiefs of the two parties sit together and take judicious decisions considering interests of people and the country, he said.
Paying tributes to the memory of Shamsul Haque, the Bikalpa Dhara leader said politicians now should evaluate his deeds and re-establish moral values in politics.
