'Establish physiotherapy college, remove NITOR director'
The physiotherapy students yesterday demanded immediate establishment of physiotherapy college and ousting of Director AKM Ishaq from National Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).
They placed the demands at a press conference at the National Press Club in the city yesterday.
They also demanded ousting teacher Arif Anwar from NITOR and punishment to the attackers on the students on September 4.
Employees of the institute attacked the students when they were submitting a memorandum to the NITOR director demanding a separate physiotherapy college.
The students alleged that the workers had attacked them on the director's instruction and also demanded unconditional withdrawal of all cases filed against them.
The students said at least one of their fellow students are fighting for life, three are at the risks of permanent disability and one has become blind.
Jotishka Biswas read out a written speech on behalf of the students at the press conference.
Meanwhile, doctors, officials, and employees at a rally yesterday strongly rejected the demand for establishing a separate institute for physiotherapy students, says a press release.
