Bangladesh seeks investment from European, Dutch business houses
Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, who is visiting the Netherlands, urged European and Dutch business houses to invest in Bangladesh taking advantage of the “market-friendly liberalised rule” of the country.
He was speaking at the Hague Chamber of Commerce at an event well attended by European and Dutch business representatives on Tuesday evening.
The foreign adviser said, “Bangladesh is one of the most attractive investment destinations in the region today”.
He further said: “We have liberalized our economy in a way that has surpassed many of our neighbours. We offer attractive incentives to foreign investors, legal protection against nationalisation, generous tax holidays and unrestricted repatriation of capital and profits. Also we are home to inexpensive, productive and easily trainable labour force”.
He also added that investors should take advantage of the increasing regional cooperation in economic fields in South Asia, which will provide their industries, located in Bangladesh, a huge market.
A number of questions were asked on the general areas of trade and investment, to which he responded, according to a message received here yesterday.
Earlier, on the day, he had held meetings with the Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen and Development Cooperation Minister Bert Koenders.
The foreign adviser was also guest of honour at a dinner by the Bangladesh-Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Amsterdam.
