Stocks trade upbeat

Dhaka stocks started the week on an upbeat note yesterday, with turnover also slightly rising.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSE General Index, rose 21.06 points, or 0.75 percent, to 2824.03 points, while the DSE All Share Price Index gained 6.4 points, or 0.26 percent, to 2404.15 points.
Apart from a rise in price indices, turnover crossed the Tk 300 crore mark after several days. "This is significant," said a market analyst. “It shows the market is heading towards stability."
Total turnover reached Tk 304.63 crore yesterday, which was Tk 236.60 crore on Thursday, the previous trading day.
The majority of the securities traded up on the premier bourse. Of the total 219 issues traded on the DSE, 106 scrips gained, 103 declined and 10 ended unchanged.
A total of 1,89,89,400 shares changed hands on the DSE. Total market capitalisation rose to Tk 99,339.08 crore from the previous day's Tk 98,846.71 crore.
The state-run gas distribution and transmission company, Titas Gas, topped the turnover table with 8,29,650 shares worth Tk 37.93 crore.
The day's other turnover leaders were Beximco, ACI, ICB 2nd NRB Mutual Fund, Grameen 2, Salam Crest, Beximco Pharma, Lanka Bangla Finance, Pragati Insurance and AB Bank.
Chittagong stocks also finished slightly higher with gainers beating losers.
The CSE Selective Categories Index rose 7.64 points, or 0.13 percent, to 5657.61 points, while the CSE All Share Price Index increased 9.73 points, or 0.11 percent, to 8665.64 points.
A total of 34,82,280 shares worth Tk 37.79 crore changed hands on the port city bourse. Of the total 129 traded issues, 63 gained, 60 declined and six remained unchanged.
