Once Bangladesh was supposed to be abundantly rich in natural gas and also supposed to be able to export gas, after meeting the growing demand of the country but the ground reality is just the opposite now. A grave crisis is looming large on the sectors dependent on gas, as the quantity of gas reserves is rapidly decreasing.
Bibiyana, one of the largest gas fields of the country, is on the verge of an early demise. The gas reservoir would be seriously affected if extraction of gas continues for a long time, exceeding the permissible limit. The government should pay due attention to the matter and stop over-extraction of gas from Bibiyana gas field.
