Killings of the founding father, founding (acting) president, founding prime minister and key members of the first cabinet are the greatest tragedy and shame for any nation.
Now after 33 years and many commissions and courts and despite compelling evidences and self confessions of the killers, the finding that only a Risaldar (a subedar in the armoured corps) was responsible for all these killings sounds like a cruel joke.
Independence of Bangladesh did not come through any round table negotiations. It seems the only 'crime' these slain leaders had committed was that due to their wise political leadership the barbaric Pakistan army was defeated in a record nine months' time.
For any fair justice the combination of three positive wills political, bureaucratic and judicial are needed. The incidents in recent years indicate that all the moral values, historical consciousness and positive wills are eroded and that undermines the state's ability to deliver any good. A system that protects the guilty is bound to promote social disorder and an ultimate catastrophe.
