Unconditional release of students demanded

Different student bodies yesterday strongly protested the attack and arrest of physiotherapy students of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) and demanded their unconditional release.
In separate statements, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Bangladesh Chhatra Union and Bangladesh Physiotherapy Students Union (BPSU) threatened to announce a tough movement at the educational institutions if their demand is not met soon.
They also demanded steps to form a probe committee in order to arrest the real culprits and ensure exemplary punishment to them.
Meanwhile, protesting the attack BPSU took out a procession and held rally at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the Dhaka University campus early yesterday.
BPSU leaders said media reports accusing the students regarding the incident are not true. They also demanded immediate withdrawal of the case filed against them and proper treatment of the injured students.
Students of Physiotherapy department of Nitor went on a rampage on Thursday, ransacking classrooms, doctors' chambers and administrative offices demanding a separate institute for them.
The students locked into a fierce clash with hospital employees that left at least 35 people, including 25 students, injured.
Police and Rab members detained 15 students and Physiotherapy Course Coordinator Humayun Kabir on charges of vandalism.
