Rice mills owners here have lodged cases against the Rural Electrification Board (REB) assistant general manager (AGM), Md Mainuddin, the district controller of food (DC-Food), Enayetur Rahman and the Sadar upazila controller of food (UCF), Osman Gani for snapping power of their mills.
Md Bodiuzzaman, Habibur Rahman, Nurul Amin Sarkar and Md Shahar Ali lodged the cases on behalf of the rice mills owners with the Senior Assistant Judge's Court here on Tuesday.
They said they had incurred a great loss following snapping of electricity by REB in collaboration with Food Department. Terming the step as 'illegal,' they said it 'an interference' to their right to conduct independent business.
The Food Department has cancelled licenses of 92 rice mills in July, according to a decision of the District Food Procurement Monitoring Committee, DC-Food Enayetur Rahman said. Power lines were snapped from their mills for their failure to supply rice to government godowns as per agreement signed with them under the ongoing food procurement drive, he said.
