Lower court asked to accept bail bond of Pintu
The High Court (HC) yesterday directed the judge of Special Judge Court-1 set up on Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises to immediately accept the bail bond of detained former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu in a relief scam case.
The HC also warned Judge Firoz Alam of the court and Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque of Dhaka Metro Senior Special Tribunal and Sessions Court that their refusals to entertain Pintu's bail bond following HC bail to him was "unbecoming" and if they behave in this manner in future, action will be taken against them in accordance with law.
In response to an application filed by Pintu yesterday, an HC vacation bench comprising Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Mamnoon Rahman passed the ruling.
On August 24, Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque refused to receive Pintu's bail bond as the case was transferred to the Special Judge Court-1.
Pintu's lawyers sent the bail bond to the Special Judge Court-1 the same day but Judge Firoz Alam also refused to entertain it since the HC stayed the proceedings of the case.
Advocate Md Asaduzzaman yesterday told The Daily Star that there was no relation between the bail bond and the stay order.
