Arrest warrant against ex-envoy Nazimullah
A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against former superintendent of police (SP) Mojibul Haque, his family members and former Bangladesh ambassador in Abu Dhabi Nazimullah Chowdhury in two separate graft cases.
Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the orders following prayers submitted by the investigation officers (IOs) of the cases.
CASE AGAINST EX-SP
ACC Deputy Director Safiqur Rahman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court, Dhaka, on August 26 showing 23 people as prosecution witnesses.
The other charge sheeted accused are Mojibul's wife Shahida Haque and son Shahidul Haque.
They have been accused of amassing wealth worth Tk 5,14,12,555 through illegal means and concealing information of wealth worth Tk 2,15,18,468 from the commission.
The ACC official accused Mojibul's wife and his son of abetting him in acquiring the illegal wealth.
The IO prayed for issuance of arrest warrants against the three and the court order to attach their properties, as they have been absconding since filing of the case.
On January 6 this year, ACC Deputy Director Zulfikar Ali filed the graft case against them with Ramna Police Station.
In the case statement, the complainant mentioned that Mojibul Haque had amassed wealth worth about Tk 5.27 crore beyond his known sources of income and concealed information of wealth worth Tk 2.15 crore in his statement submitted to the ACC.
CASE AGAINST AMBASSADOR
The same court yesterday issued an arrest warrant against Nazimullah Chowdhury in a case filed against him on charges of causing a loss of Tk 13.47 lakh to the state exchequer through misuse of power and deception.
On September 1, ACC Deputy Director Abdullah Al Zahid, also the IO of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the CMM Court, Dhaka, showing 30 people as prosecution witnesses.
In the charge sheet, the IO mentioned that Nazimullah had caused a loss of Tk 13,47,120 to the state exchequer through misuse of power and deception.
On May 14 this year, ACC Deputy Director Abdullah Al Zahid filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station.
The complainant accused Nazimullah of irregularities in renting the ambassador's house, corruption in purchasing furniture for the abode and appointing gardeners.
It was also mentioned in the FIR that Nazimullah shifted his residence in Abu Dhabi through misuse of power for his own benefit, causing loss to the state exchequer. He also appointed two gardeners at his residence resorting to corruption and irregularities.
