Help recover land from grabbers

Elderly woman urges police

Land grabbers are trying to capture a piece of land of an elderly women and forcing her to leave the residence in the name of donating it to a school at Kamrangirchar, the 95-year-old Aushi Bibi alleged this yesterday.
The elderly woman said she had donated five decimal of her 20-decimal land for establishing a school in 1970 when she was assured that the school would be named after her father, but they did not.
Aushi Bibi at a press conference in the city said, “Two locals -- Jalil Matbar and Sobhan Mia -- also donated five decimals of land each in papers, but they did not own any such land at that time.”
“Later, Jalil and Sobhan had tried to grab the land but did not succeed because of interference of the then chairman Haji Aual, but now the school committee President Solaiman and his gang is trying to grab the rest of my land and evict me from my residence in the name of the school,” she added.
She also alleged that the gang vandalised her 25 cottages and beaten one of her sons when she filed a general diary (GD) with Kamrangirchar Police Station for their ill motives in 1998.
The dispute was then settled by former Awami League lawmaker Haji Mohammad Selim.
Aushi Bibi said though she had sought the assistance from the police, they did not cooperate her in recovering the land. She now called on the high officials of police to resolve the problem over land grabbing.
