BB governor calls for export market diversification

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed yesterday called for diversifying the country's export markets to attain a sustainable economic growth.
While speaking as chief guest at a certificate giving ceremony in Dhaka organised by International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh (ICC-B), the governor also stressed the need for exploring the domestic market properly, said an ICC-B press release.
The governor gave away certificates among 10 bankers who successfully completed 'Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS)' examination held on April 10 in Dhaka. As many as 12 bankers from two local and two foreign banks appeared at the examination and 10 passed.
CDCS is an international standard qualification for documentary credit specialists, and a professional certification that enables documentary credit practitioners to demonstrate specialised knowledge and application of skills required for competent practice, said Mahbubur Rahman, president of ICC-B.
The ICC-B president also appreciated the BB decision regarding raising capital base of all banks to Tk 400 crore. The result of the decision will safeguard the interest of the depositors, he said.
Mahbubur Rahman also hailed the central bank's decision of following expansionary monetary policy, saying that the decision will support industries and production process of the county.
Mamun Rashid, chairman of the Banking Committee of ICC-B, termed the participation of Bangladeshi bankers in CDCS examination as a very significant event.
Having 10 CDCS experts, Bangladesh will be able to handle international trade issues with confidence, he said.
Latifur Raman, vice president of ICC-B, and MA Sattar, former president of FBCCI, among others, were present at the function.
