50 hurt in clash over high price of vegetable
At least 50 people were injured and 30 shops damaged in a clash over high price of red amaranth at Anandabazar in the district town yesterday.
Police arrested five persons from the spot.
According to eye witness and police sources, buyer Shah Alam was locked in an altercation with seller Babul Mia over high rate of red amaranth at a kitchen market inn the town.
This drew their men who swooped on each other, some with lethal weapons. The clash spread to Anandabazar, Sarak Bazar, Newmarket and K Das Road areas involving more people on both sides. Intermittent clashes continued for about two hours.
On information, a police team headed by Assistant Police Superintendent (Sadar Circle) Nazmul Hasan rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Twelve of the injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
