2 hurt as gas cylinder of taxi explodes

At least two people, including a firefighter, were injured in an explosion of a taxicab's CNG cylinder at Airport Road in the capital yesterday.
The injured were identified as Omar Khaiyam, 30, a member of fire service and civil defence at Tejgaon Fire Station, and Zahirul Haque Chowdhury, 48, a pedestrian.
Witnesses said the cylinder of the taxicab caught fire at about 3:30pm and its driver along with passengers got out of the cab immediately without any trouble. But after half an hour when the firemen were getting ready to extinguish the fire, the cylinder exploded.
Fire spread on the body of Omar who was standing close to the cab during the explosion. A piece of the cylinder hit the left hand of pedestrian Zahirul.
Both the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with burn injuries.
