Dhaka, Ctg MSCs fight it out today
Eight-time winners Dhaka Mohammedan take on their Chittagong namesakes in the second semifinal today for a place in Monday's Citycell Federation final against Abahani.
The battle of the two Mohammedans will be telecast live by Bangladesh Television at 5 pm from the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Despite a struggling start, Mohammedan -- who had to win their first two group matches with late goals -- have retained their all-win record with a comfortable 4-1 win against Arambagh and a 2-0 defeat of Muktijoddha in the quarterfinal.
Maruful Haque's men, however, must give full credit to Nigerian forward Alamu Bukola's seven goals out of their total ten.
An aging backline led by ex-international Jewel Rana could be a headache for the local giants but having reached the final of the prestigious competition for a dozen times, history would be definitely on their side.
Nazrul Haque Ledu's men from Chittagong, meanwhile, proved a very tough side although they lacked attacking flair, scoring just six goals in four appearances.
The B. League team from the port city, however, must not be haunted by a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Dhaka Mohammedan in the inaugural professional league last year in Dhaka. Like their Dhaka counterparts, they are also undefeated in the tournament and finished runners-up in their group to Abahani on goal difference after a goalless draw with the finalists.
Chittagong Mohammedan followed up their two wins (3-2 v Jatrabari and 2-1 Chittagong Abahani) in the group stage with a 4-2 tiebreaker victory against BKSP in the quarterfinals after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.
